The ocean contains enormous scientific unknowns. Aethon treats anomalies as questions — not conclusions — and uses repeatable observation, multiple sensors and independent evidence to investigate them.
Five states, and a thing only moves between them on evidence.
An observation is never upgraded because it would make a better story. “Unresolved” is not a failure state — it is the honest answer far more often than not.
Verified discovery
Observed, reproduced or corroborated independently, and reviewed by people who did not collect the data.
Known feature
Already documented in the scientific record. Catalogued here for completeness, credited to whoever found it.
Under investigation
Observed once, or by one instrument. Interesting, insufficient. Being actively worked on.
Explained
Looked anomalous, turned out to have a conventional explanation. These stay published — the explanations are the useful part.
Unresolved
Observed, tested against conventional explanations, still not accounted for. Remains unresolved rather than being assigned a story.
What every entry has to carry.
If a record cannot supply these, it does not get published. Where economic or environmental value is estimated, the methodology and uncertainty are shown alongside it — never a bare number.

Empty. Aethon has not run its own missions yet, so there is nothing here that meets the standard above. When there is, it will appear here with its full provenance — including the ones that turn out to be explained.
