Prototype 2: 21 regions and a world map
US waters from the Gulf of Maine to American Samoa, and the Ridge: 149,754 hexagons. On average 77% of their GEBCO seafloor grid cells carry a direct-measurement code; dive tracks in the included records cross just 321 of them. Zoom out to the world map, or let it take you somewhere at random.
Open the world map →Prototype 2 is live
Two regions now, the Mid-Atlantic Ridge and the shelf off New Jersey, with where a camera has actually looked as well as what was measured. Its test found that reading older ship tracks cut the Ridge's hexagons with no survey record from 34% to 21%.
Open Prototype 2 →Prototype 1: the whole region at a glance
One summary of all 25,297 places: what is known, each gap and how many places it covers, lit up on the map. Sources now sit once under each block, not after every line.
See the whole region →Prototype 1 is live
For any place on one stretch of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge: what is known, how and when it was observed, and what is still uncertain, with a source on every value. Its first test found depth estimated between ship surveys off by a median of 147 m.
Open Prototype 1 →Prototype 0 is live
The first working version of Aethon Intelligence maps how well one stretch of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge is measured, using public data from GEBCO, NOAA and InterRidge. It was published before external validation; ocean scientists review it next.
Open Prototype 0 →A shorter, simpler site
Every page was cut back to what someone needs to understand it quickly. The ideas are the same, with fewer words.
A one-page brief for reviewers
Outside scientists can now review the Aethon Intelligence method from a single page, based on methodology v1.0. Their feedback decides what changes.
Become a reviewer →Network became Collaborate
The planned student network is cancelled. Its page is now Collaborate: who can help, and how the work is set up.
Work with Aethon →A methodology you can disagree with
The method behind Aethon Intelligence is written down and frozen until outside experts review it. The weights are left open on purpose: made-up weights would give a number that looks precise and cannot be tested.
What it is being built to do →Licence checks before any data is used
Public data is not always free to use. Every dataset is checked before any code reads it.
The site became one company
withaethon.com used to describe eleven businesses. It now describes one: ocean exploration technology, starting with Aethon Intelligence.
What Aethon is →Every figure has a source
Each statistic on the site is kept in one place with its source and date.
Questions before conclusions
An earlier version of the site described non-human intelligence beneath the seafloor as Aethon's belief. That claim is gone. Strange observations are treated as open questions until the evidence says otherwise.
